The Ronda/Dean Report

Last year, Rhonda Pierce was here for Thanksgiving and she got roped into setting up the Art of Homemaking Exhibit.  Looking at those pictures yesterday, I discovered this picture of MY TWO RONDA/RHONDA's.
I took Rhonda over to Ronda's house to see her nativity collection (she has hundreds).

We had a nice visit with Ronda and Dean...

Ya'll know Dean has had a rough go lately. So, here's a review -- then the update...

In November, Ronda, Dean and I all got Covid. Dean ended up in the hospital for 6 days, and they sent him home on oxygen. After a month or so, he was finally getting better, and on Christmas Eve, he was walking around the house without the oxygen. He decided to bring in some firewood...and then...

December 24: he fell down the basement stairs and broke his back...they couldn't do surgery because his lungs were too compromised from Covid, so they put him in a back brace and sent him home...

January 1: he started to get sores on his hands...and his doctor thought it was MRSA

January 4: Dean had an appointment in Iowa City to see if the brace was doing it's job. Latest development? While they were getting Dean ready for the x-ray, he started to vomit. Then, they discovered blood in his stool... Wait for it...he has a twisted bowel

Last Monday, he was rushed into emergency surgery.  YIKES.

It was a very, very serious situation.  Because of his bout with Covid, the worry was that his lungs wouldn't tolerate the anesthesia.  But he came through the surgery with "flying colors".

He's still in the hospital.

Ronda goes to the hospital every day for the 1-3 visitation.  Each patient is allowed one visitor per day for two hours.  Her grandsons have been driving her back and forth to Iowa City.  Last night, she came over for supper, and she was in good spirits.

I may have forgotten to tell you that Dean is a cancer survivor.  He has been in a clinical trial at the University of Michigan for three years -- and his cancer is in remission.

Ronda and Dean both have a remarkable optimism -- but this is a lot....
