WOW...those quilts!!

I wish EVERYBODY I KNOW could visit the Quilt House in Lincoln, Nebraska. PLEASE DO GO if you ever get a chance.

Here's the thing.  I've been to scores of Quilt Shows, I've seen wonderful Quilt Exhibits, with beautiful elaborate quilts.  But this was a different experience.

There are no words I can write that will convey the feeling of this place...

It felt more like a Quilt Church than a Quilt Show...

So -- I'm just going to show you pictures....
The most valuable and fragile quilts are kept flat, and stored in this climate controlled room, on these pull out shelves...
White silk.  175 years old.  French.  All hand stitched...
A stunner.  More silk...
it SO looked like machine embroidery...but it's all hand stitched....
There are newer quilts, too.  Some quilts are purchased...some are donated...
This is a famous Crazy Quilt.
The quilter worked on it for 35 years.(I hope NOT to beat her record...)
This is a lithograph of the woman who made the quilt.  SHOCKING to me that she could manage this with 1912 technology!!
I will always remember this quilt.
Because it's ALL BUTTONS..!!
GREAT WAY to kick off your birthday week celebration, Rhonda!!  Well done...

  1. Thank you for these posts about The Quilt House. I receive an email for the quilt of the month from there. Learning about so many different quilts lifts my spirit. Because of you a trip here has now been put on my bucket list! Can you tell us a little about the button quilt, please? Thank you! Kathy B

  2. Is the same museum that showed Ken Burns' quilts? I was amazed to find out he collected quilts.
