Grandma Camp Farmer's Market

Every Tuesday -- my sister Ronda and her husband Dean take produce and homemade pies, etc. to a little Farmer's Market in Camanche, Iowa.

Dean has a HUGE garden, and every Tuesday morning, Ronda bakes pies, as well as cookies, etc.

Because Elliott has 100 chickens, they collect MANY DOZENS OF EGGS every week. Although they have some regular egg customers -- they often get a build-up. Dean said customers ask about eggs, so he suggested the kids set up at the Farmer's Market.

HEY -- WHAT A FUN IDEA!!

So -- I loaded up a card table and some folding chairs. Lilly made the signs. We put 20 cartons of eggs in a cooler, with some ice -- and OFF WE WENT. Oh, yes, this will be a wonderful Grandma Camp learning experience.  This little Farmer's Market is only from 4:00 to 5:30.

In my Pollyanna Grandma brain -- I pictured the kids working together to set up our booth -- then, interacting with customers, making change, counting out money...

I always have a deck of cards, just in case we have some down time...

Ronda has quite few regular customers who come for her baked goods.

The vendor next to us brought her charming dog. Both kids LOVED that, of course.

But the neighbor's dog was only good for 5 minutes of entertainment...

Then, Minute 6 -- the boredom set in. The kids started picking at each other...he pushed her, she was in his space, they argued about who had the best chair...neither one of them was the least bit interested in selling eggs.  Actually, any adult with a brain knows enough to STEER CLEAR OF THE BICKERING CHILDREN...

By Minute 10, They were hungry. STARVING, as a matter of fact.  Apparently, they hadn't had breakfast or lunch....if you believed what they were saying -- neither of them could remember the last meal they ate.  KIDS ARE SO DRAMATIC...

I didn't think to pack snacks...so, we bought a bag of cookies from Ronda. ($5.00) What choice did I have?

So -- here are the final numbers:

We sold 3 dozen eggs @$2.00 each.
