Day One: NYC/DVM: Times Square

If you are a girl, growing up in the middle of a corn field in the middle of Iowa...Times Square is about as far away as you can get from your every-day life.  My sister Deena's mission was to take her granddaughter Maddie to this place...and here we are...
I'm sure Deena got some great pictures (mine, obviously, suck...)
It was a nice day. Cool but sunny.  We had a delightful walk down to Macy's.
The largest department store in the world!
We went to Herald's Square -- right across the street (can you see all those pigeons in the middle of the daffodils?)
THIS is the spot -- right across from Macy's -- where every band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade stops to perform!!
I tried to get a shoe shot...
Once we went inside the store, my mission was to take DVM UP the escalators -- all the way to the 7th floor -- so they could experience the 100-year-old wooden tread on these ancient escalators..!! Really...installed in the early 20th Century, they are still working today.  It's like taking a ride in a time machine...
As we came out of Macy's -- the next stop on the DVM tour is RIGHT THERE..!!
(MORE ABOUT THESE FLOORS LATER...)
EMPIRE STATE BUILDING -- HERE WE COME!!
