Life is a Journey

This is a rock I wanted to buy...except that I don't have any say about what goes in our yard.

Which is a long standing Farro tradition. When the boys were small, and John unilaterally decided there would be no swingset...

That was bad enough -- but then, he has repeatedly declared NO PINK FLAMINGOS.

Ahh...the deprivation...

But, I digress...
The point is, I love this sentiment...and I LIVE IT...
I think it means you should make the most of every single day -- all those cliches that are so powerful, because they are TRUE. Stop to smell the roses...yada yada.

But -- I also take that advice in a very LITERAL WAY.  I ACTUALLY ENJOY THE JOURNEY...planes, trains and automobiles. No matter what mode of transportation I'm using -- the key to my happiness is BOOKS.  Or, maybe music.  I like to think this is a gift I'm giving my grandchildren.

When Pat came to visit this summer, she was surprised by HOW MUCH ACTUAL TIME I SPEND IN MY CAR.  Hey -- we live in the middle of a cornfield.  It's a 30 minute drive to the store, so I spend A LOT OF TIME IN MY CAR....but I consider it time well spent.  Because every week, I get a new supply of audio books from the library...
Warren loves his tunes!! The minute he gets into his car seat, he tells me to TURN ON MY MUSIC!! (He conveys this message with loud grunts, and a series of specific pointing)
I loved Tina Fey's book!!
This summer, I nearly wore out the Jersey Boys CD...SUCH A GREAT SHOW...
Pat recommended the Boys in the Boat -- and I AM LOVING IT...

  1. Boys in the Boat is the official book to read up here this summer. Really, it was made official by the powers that be in this state. My mom is currently reading it and I get it next.
Hmm....pink flamingos. Did you know that "flamingoing someone's yard is a popular fundraiser in this state among the Masonic youth groups? Someone recommends a person's yard and the kids will fill it with flamingos. The person who was flamingoed has to pay a fee to have them removed. Also, when the word gets out that this is happening, people can buy "flamingo insurance" so they won't get flamingoed. The kids make a lot of money with this fun fundraiser.
