March 18, Part 5

I know -- when will this day end, eh?? There is the real possibility that I'm spending more time BLOGGING about it than I actually spent living it...

Considering the fact that when we left the hotel that morning, I only knew we were headed "up towards Central Park"...it has been a TRULY SPECTACULAR DAY. We didn't leave Tavern On The Green until after 5:00 (it was starting to fill up)...

And the weather had continued to deteriorate...it was cold, and wet. But we didn't have to walk far...
And we enjoyed a little walkabout on the winter NYC streets. Behind us, the famous Century 21 store...(we didn't go in)
Alice Tully Hall -- at Lincoln Center. (we went down to the subway here)
Down on the platform, I asked Lilly if she recognized the mosaic scene. She stepped back and said, ALICE IN WONDERLAND...
The subway was crowded...no seats this time...
But, hey,  Lilly is an experienced rider now...
Early that morning, when TOT headed off for their morning of breakfast at the Plaza and the Zoo -- we talked about getting together that night for the "family" magic show that was being hawked by ticket sellers in Times Square.

Lilly loves magic (The Carbonara Affect)...and supposedly, the magicians at this show had been on America's Got Talent (doubtful).....

When Lilly and I got off the subway at 50th Street, we walked down to Times Square...sorta looking for the people who'd been hawking the Magic Show tickets the night before...
This street was closed to thru traffic...
The magic show starts at 7:30...I wasn't sure we'd be able to find the ticket-sellers
From what I gathered, if you bought the tickets at the theater, they would be $30 each. But if you bought from one of the hawkers on the street, you paid $20.
In keeping with the Ritaluck of the day -- we met this woman. Pandora (she has her own YouTube channel). Shes a comedienne, and as near as I can figure, she gets to keep all the money when she sells these tickets on the street. (I kind of figured that out when she kept dropping the price...I got 5 tickets for $40).
So -- here's the way it works. When you get up to the "club" (it is a very tight space, above a souvenir shop, up a big flight of stairs) the cover charge is two drinks apiece. You could order food instead of a drink -- there is a limited menu -- frozen pizza, nachos, etc. Prices are from $5-$18.

Hey -- everybody's tryin' to make a living...

I couldn't take any pictures inside the dark little theater -- but the MAGIC WAS GREAT. There were two guys, and every time they asked for a volunteer, Lilly raised her hand.

SHE GOT UP ON STAGE...and picked a random number, when the guy slammed down on a paper bag, it was empty. The other three bags had shards of glass...
After the show, I took a picture of Lilly and the Magician. SHE WAS DELIGHTED.
Neither one of us wanted this day to end. Now, it was about 9:30, and we were hungry again!!  In keeping with our theme of the day (Ritaluck) -- we walked right into John's Pizza on 44th Street and got a table.
John's Pizza used to be a church...and the inside of the building is JUST AWESOME. You will NEVER eat pizza in a more beautiful setting than this.
Of course, we played another game of Bananagrams while we waited.
This picture sucks -- but the pizza was WONDERFUL.
John's also had an extensive dessert menu. There were 13 different desserts to choose from...and Lilly picked something called "Copa Marscapone". It was the perfect ending to our absolutely perfect day...
Lilly is the official "hotel key" keeper...and it's a job she's very good at.
