During Mary's recent visit, on TMBC day -- we went to one of my favorite shops, Deja Vu in Clinton, Iowa. she discovered this treasure...
It was buried in the back of the shop, on a high shelf...but the fabrics called Mary's name... |
We all loved the vintage fabrics...and there seemed no rhyme or reason to the piecing... |
To be TRULY RANDOM is very difficult..and the more we studied the piecing, the more random it appeared to be. |
However, as great as the piecing was -- the quilt had been hand tied. With red yarn. Ugh. There was about an 80% chance the red yarn will run the first time you wash the quilt... |
AND THERE WERE SO MANY OF THEM! |
Also, the original quilter had stitched the red yarn around the entire edge of the quilt... |
This particular resale shop has dated pricing. When an item comes in, it is priced, and the price drops every month. Originally, this quilt had been $75. By the time Mary found it, the price was only $37.50.
The fabrics looked like they had never been washed. But the red ties were so problematic. But -- $37.50??? WHAT A BARGAIN. I wonder if I could remove the ties?
Just what I need -- another project...
I loved the patterns, the fabrics...and what can you buy in today's world for $37.50??? But I don't need another quilt OR another project...
I wonder if I could get rid of the red ties...$37.50???
I talked myself into it and out of it six or seven times. As you see, at the end of the day, the bargain won me over...
Even Frankie thought the yarn ties were ugly... |
And, standing there, in that little shop, on January 22, this most excellent girlfriend day, I knew EXACTLY who was going to receive this quilt...
