Mary's First Day

Mary arrived about Noon.  I love my Moline airport.  There are SIX airlines servicing it, so the prices are competitive -- and planes are landing all day long. I waited for Mary in the cellphone parking lot...
THERE SHE IS...arriving right on time!!  Hey -- THE GIRL KNOWS HOW TO PACK...
We hit the ground running. We were hooking up with TCMB Sandy and Linda -- and the first order of business was FOOD...
Since I discovered Sippi's last year -- and it's just down the street from the German-American Museum, so that means CHEESE FRIES for lunch...
Then, we went on to the museum -- where 60 quilters all put together a small quilt (14 by 18 inches) -- using the same piece of Hoffman river fabric.

Sara Detweiler put together a very interesting challenge for 60 of her best friends...
As it was hung, you could see the piece of river fabric, running through the display...
I loved this piece, showing the 4th of July fireworks over the Centennial Bridge.
The Rock Island Arsenal was depicted in several of the finished pieces.
THEN -- we went on to see the permanent exhibits at the Museum. Apparently, in the 1840's, Davenport Iowa was to German immigrants what Rodeo Drive is to the Kardashians.
The Museum does a WONDERFUL job of telling their story...
My favorite thing were the video diaries...they had young actors/actresses, dressed in period clothes, telling the story of their immigration.  This woman came over on a ship with her husband and six children...then, her husband died.  She made her living running a boarding house, and eventually bought a farm near Eldridge, Iowa.
Like that wasn't enough for one day -- THERE WAS ONE MORE EXHIBIT at the Museum that really piqued our interest!!
What a busy first day, eh? And like that wasn't ENOUGH TO DO -- we went home and had supper  with the E team.  Elliott and Emily came with the kids, and John made burgers.  Lilly and Warren stayed afterwards -- just so Mary could watch them running up and down the hall.

No visit would be complete without a little kid hit, Mary!!

WOW...and when you think about this -- THAT WAS JUST HALF A DAY.
