Down the Rabbit Hole

Princeton, Iowa has a wonderful little library. The last time I took you there was for the Easter Egg Hunt. They recently had a special event  --  "Down the Rabbit Hole".

A woman from Long Grove, Iowa was coming to talk about her wild animal rescues. The write-up said she would bring her rescued animals -- rabbits, turtles, Chinchillas, dogs, etc. There were 20+ kids waiting for her...and it took some time to get all the animals hauled into the library...

Lilly was BEYOND THRILLED...she couldn't even stay in her chair, she was so excited about seeing all the animals...

This woman's stories of animal abuse were terrible and way over the head of 3 and 4 year old children. (I hope) She talked about going into one home to rescue a dog that was bloodied and starving, beaten with a broken leg. In that horrible, dingy home she also saw a little boy with a cast on his arm and a grandmother with two black eyes....ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

I am thinking -- YIKES -- QUIT TALKING!! Enough with the nightmare images....Could we please get to the part where the kids get to hold the cute little bunnies??.....

But even after she got the bunnies out of their cages -- there was more.  She talked about how the gerbil rescue happened because two college boys purchased it from a pet store so they could torture it, make it drink beer and inhale marijuana smoke...I'M THINKING -- PLEASE STOP TALKING....

Her tortoise was rescued from a bathtub in a trailer...it was HUGE....

This is my favorite picture of the afternoon. Lilly, holding a bunny, all on her own....yes, this is her ECSTATIC FACE....

Hey -- YOU WOULD BE SAD, TOO....
