TMBC Sew and Tell, Part #2

Linda P and Sandy are both big fans and followers of the Row by Row quilt phenomenon. As a matter of fact, in the last couple of years -- they've both purchased SO MANY KITS on their various hunts, bus trips and excursions -- there was no way they would ever be able to sew them all...

Unless there was a worldwide pandemic or something...

Hummm....wait for it....

LP and Sandy have finished dozens of row by row panels...
They are both perfectionists...and are VERY hard on themselves when comparing and critiquing their finished rows...

The best thing about the Row by Row Experience is that EVERY QUILT IS DIFFERENT.  Depending on the region of the country you live in -- and the shops where you purchased the kits -- each quilt is like a snowflake...unique in it's own way -- based on the expertise and taste of the woman who first shopped it, then quilted it.

Like all good quilters -- Linda and Sandy GIVE AWAY their art.  They have a list in their head....and, usually, the recipients are, first, children, then grandchildren, then good friends...and, at this point -- I believe they are gifting quilts to the clerks at Walmart...

Sandy completed this music-themed quilt for her son.   I THOUGHT IT WAS A STUNNING WORK OF ART...

At last week's TMBC, LP brought her latest FINISHED Row-by-Row quilt. The first one she intends to keep for herself. (we'll see...)
Both LP and Sandy finish their row-by-row quilts with the quilt-as-you-go technique...(the blue strips between rows)
Every year, the participating shops choose a theme.  This was about "travel(?)"...

This is what the back of a QAYG project looks like....GORGEOUS, GIRLS..

this is my attempt to show the detail of the finished QAYG seams.
LP and Sandy have had LOTS OF PRACTICE with this technique
The Amish buggy panel probably came from Kalona, Iowa
the little mini-quilts were 3-D...

I have NO IDEA how many panels Linda and Sandy have created at this point...and I'm pretty sure they weren't keeping track, either. But the Row-by-Row experience has brought hours of productive joy into their lives, and, for the most part -- the shops that participated have done a wonderful job of designing panels that represent their particular part of the world.

For me -- it has been a really fun spectator sport..!!
