Library events: Ezra Meeker

I am grateful for the wonderful library system we have in this country and, THAT'S TRUE IN EVERY STATE -- certainly not just Iowa.

Because I have many friends in Puyallup, Washington (hello, Joanne, Laura, Linda, Connie, Sharon, Ann, Janet, Stacy, Jill, Mary, Violet, Marsha, Pat, Elaine, June, Nancy, Kay, Sue, Brenda...) I went to YOUR library website...

I was not surprised to learn that Puyallup also had a Carnegie library!!
The original Carnegie Library in Puyallup, Washington.
And I was also not surprised to learn that your current library offers a huge selection of books, events and programs to benefit the community.  For example...

Ezra Meeker and the Oregon Trail

Location: Puyallup Public Library
324 S. Meridian
Puyallup, WA 98371

Come hear author and historian, Dennis Larsen talk about Ezra Meeker's travels on the Oregon Trail.
Mr Larsen is Ezra Meeker's official biographer, and the author of five books, including Slick as a Mitten: Ezra Meeker's Klondike Enterprise. Dennis and his wife were two travelers on the 2006 Centennial reenactment of Meeker's first trip back of the Trail. No one knows more about the Life of Ezra meeker than this tireless and talented historian. Don't miss this chance to celebrate our local history!

This program is co-sponsored by the Puyallup Historical Society at Meeker Mansion.
All those years I went to Puyallup -- I can't believe I never thought to visit your library!!
Hey -- if I was going to be in the vicinity next week -- I'D MEET YOU AT THE LIBRARY!!

  1. I've read all your library posts this week and was excited that you featured my library today! I grew up in the library building that was between the two you have pictured. Every summer I participated in the summer reading program. And, because we actually lived in the county, not city, we had the bookmobile. Guess what! It stopped right in front of our house!! Every week!! That was better than the ice cream truck to me :-) In 2014, our library celebrated 100 years with a 100 book challenge. I completed the challenge of reading 100 books in one year and got a t-shirt, tote bag and a special 100 Club library card. Our library does have a ton of events and many groups meet in it's boardrooms. Puyallup Valley Quilters do a huge quilt display every summer in the 2-story open center. Our farmers' market is every Saturday in the park in front of the library. And we have the best coffee shop in town right next door to the library. Let's not forget the summer concert series in the park. The library shades us from the late afternoon sun while we listen to the assorted artists perform. Yep, I love the Puyallup Library!
