Sue's Tour, Part Two

Last summer I blogged about Sue's house because she was preparing a huge party for her husband's retirement -- I was there for a cole-slaw-making marathon....

This is the Lau Century Farm. My friend Sue was raised in this house. Before she was born, it had been divided so her grandparents could live in the upstairs apartment.

Fast forward 60 years....After Sue's parents died, she and her husband Kim decided to purchase the house. But it needed a lot of work, i.e., all new electrical, two new furnaces, new floors, new roof, kitchen, bathrooms -- well, you get the idea. It was A TON OF WORK...But this was the end result of their loving restoration...
You can't see the house from the road -- but once you turn into the driveway -- it is stunning.
With the fall color, my clubbers could hardly wait to take pictures...but the real treat was on the inside...
The main floor has 10' tall ceilings...and Sue has a real knack for hanging pictures.
For example, one grouping is about her Mother's family, another grouping will be about Kim's mother, another wall will feature their own small grandchildren, etc.
Sue found this quote in her Grandfather's things...so she hung it, along with pictures of HIM as a child...
This is him -- with a snowman who is actually an Egyptian something-or-other...
This grouping is about the Evans family -- keys from Kim's family home, an autograph book from his Aunt...
Pictures of the Lau house (Sue's maiden name)...
The original front door.
COMPLETE WITH WORKING KEY...
This upstairs bedroom, under the eaves, used to be for the hired man.  Sue's grandkids call it the upside/down room.
In the restored formal dining room.  When Sue was growing up in this house, this was the bedroom she shared with her sister...
An original oil painting from an Uncle Henry.  Sue has become the keeper-of-all-things-heirloom-like in her family. ON BOTH SIDES. Nobody could do a better job than she does...

Sue is a lifetime friend and I'm old enough to know what a rare thing that is, too. We've been friends since we were 13 years old.  Whether we were living in the same state, or different states -- working, traveling, raising children, running a business or taking care of a home -- we always kept in touch. And whenever we had a chance to get together, WE GRABBED IT and I'm so glad we did...
You haven't changed a bit, Sue!!
