Geneseo Auction

This year -- I was traveling most of the month of May. So, on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend -- Bert and I were delighted to be having our usual BORING, OLD NORMAL SATURDAY knock-a-bout. We always start with breakfast and a download of what's been happening in our respective lives...

Then -- on this day -- we headed to Geneseo, Illinois, for a good old-fashioned country auction...at the old Knights of Columbus building...

This auction attracted the usual crowd of good ole boys...I'm tellin' ya -- these sales are a great place to pick up men...

It's fun to look at the oddities. Is this a fish trap? What is a fish trap, anyway??

I've never seen one of these before!! AWESOME...a trike/wagon combo. It must be unusual -- because this one sold for $90.

I loved this framed picture. An old Bessie Peace Guttmann print. Called "Mighty Like A Rose"...
the poem says: "Sweetest lil' feller ev'ry-body knows. Dun-no what to cal him but he mighty lak a Rose."

You NEVER know what's going to turn up at an auction. This is a wicker clothes basket -- with a liner made out of an old quilt. REMEMBER LAUNDRY BASKET LINERS??

Really. I almost forgot about them. Mom was delighted when they started to sell plastic laundry baskets. They were so light weight, and you didn't have to worry about your clothes snagging on the wicker...

  1. You've just solved my problems with the kids' shoe basket. I've got a wicker laundry basket in the front hall closet for the kids shoes. They are well trained by now to look for their shoes there. (Not so well trained to throw them there in the first place.) Anyway, the floor below catches all the sand that falls off the shoes, the basket wiggles and over the years acts like sand paper. We've just had our floors re-finished and I hated to go back to the old system. Had never thought about lining the basket - plus an old quilt will prevent the sand from coming through. Of course the old one I have in mind came from the clearance bin at Younkers. :)
    Thanks for the inspiration Rita!
