LaSalle,Illinois

LaSalle, Illinois was full of surprises...like, for example, it was also the headquarters for the Westclox Company -- which, at it's peak, employed over 4,000 people. Although we didn't have time to visit the museum, the company history is fascinating...and here's a link to the website...

LaSalle's downtown is making a come back...
And there are many beautiful nineteenth century buildings.
Our tour guide recommended the Uptown Grill as a good place to go for dessert.
When we walked in, it was unexpectedly sophisticated.
I didn't get a picture of their I-pad menu!!
Everything about the Uptown Grill was elegant and DELICIOUS.
LaSalle, Illinois was a FABULOUS place to visit...and it makes me wonder about how many towns there are in this country that have similar stories.  The mansions, the factories, the families that built this country.  Whether your town became prosperous because of an automaker, or a lumber baron,  wool manufacturer, or a coal mine.  How our lives have been touched because somebody like Edward Hegeler came to this country... he had a dream...

So, OH YEAH, it was a wonderful day.  But the very best part of the day, of course, was spending it with an old friend.  Becky and I met on our first day in Wartburg College in September, 1967,  We were girls then...trying to figure out our place was in the world.  I have known her longer than I've known John....
A day spent with a dear friend is a gift YOU SHOULD GIVE YOURSELF.  So JUST DO IT  now -- cuz time is running out, people.
