2019 WINTER Books

Last week, we had our FIRST SNOW of the season..ugh...
And, coincidentally, my friend Judi asked what I've been reading -- and I ALWAYS love sharing book recommendations. Although I am reading (or listening) to a book every day -- winter is when I love to curl up and really GET LOST in a good book.

Reading changes you...a good book makes you think. A great book can change the way you see the world.

Where do you get your books from? Library or Amazon?  Do you read them or listen? I do more recorded books nowadays...mostly because we live in the country, and I am in my car at least an hour every day. I ALWAYS have a CD book going in my car.

Recently, my bookclub read Where The Crawdads Sing, by Della Owens and it was great.

My favorite book this year was The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. She is a wonderful writer, and I have enjoyed many of her books. But this one really affected me. It's a WWII setting, and I had no idea what it was like to live in Europe during that time. I love her characters... the story was so gripping, and she told it so beautifully...I felt like I was there.

In that genre, (historical fiction) -- The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian was a standout for me. WOW. This was a story I'd never heard (Armenia, 1915)...and it was, in so many ways, unbelievable and shocking...but he bounced back to that time, and tied it to people living in today's world -- and it is so interesting to think about OUR ancestors...what they did, how they survived, who they were, and what we owe them...I also loved The Boys In The Boat by Daniel James Brown

And, although I'm a little late to the party, right now, I'm hooked on the Elm Creek Quilt series, by Jennifer Chiaverini. I love her writing, and the characters, the place. The first book book I read by her was "Mrs.Lincoln's Dressmaker"-- which I highly recommend. I'm six books into her Elm Creek crew -- and still loving them...and wishing with all my heart that I could retire to a place called "Elm Creek Manor".

Elm Creek Manor....makes me seriously think about naming my house. WHY DON'T WE DO THAT MORE OFTEN??

...hummm....this is making me think.  In television, many homes had names,  the Ponderosa.  Walton's Mountain...

I am going to start calling the place where I live by the address...which is pretty good...

I live in Pineo Grove Court

Yes.  I like that.

  1. I love Jennifer Chiaverini!! And, I love her two very distinct types of books! I also have enjoyed Kristin Hannah. One of my favorite authors is Barbara Delinsky.
