Drone Video

Monday's derecho damages one third of Iowa cropland: (KWWL) - We've seen first hand the extensive damage inflicted on homes, power lines and businesses at the hands of Monday's powerful derecho. However, perhaps one of the biggest hits from those strong, straight-line winds has been Iowa's farmland.

  1. Goodness, I hadn’t thought about crop damage from the derecho. Thanks for sharing the video, Rita.
I’m just so glad that tree missed your new car...and YOU.

  3. It is amazing how many otherwise intelligent, informed people don't know what happened in Iowa at the hands of the derecho. Kind of a sad commentary on the national media - it wasn't covered much - at least compared to other natural disasters. The devistation is incredible and will affect people for a very long time. Very long. Central Ohio had one in 2012 - I was working in a huge retail greenhouse when it hit. Beyond scary. Truly wasn't sure we would survive. My normal drive home of 20 minutes took almost 90 because of roads blocked by downed trees. No electricity for a week - and it was nasty hot every day.
