Our first FULL DAY in New York City!! Because it's St. Patrick's Day, there will be five parades going up 5th Avenue -- with 2 million spectators. So, I have planned our day to head AWAY from the hoards of green beer drinkers...
Lilly is up and ready to go!! |
I'd asked the bellmen where we could get a good breakfast. Two of them told me they eat breakfast every morning at the Westway Diner on 9th Avenue. It's one block over, and half a block up. In less than 5 minutes -- we were sitting in my Dream NYC Diner...
Can you see the #1? Two eggs, with potatoes, toast, juice, coffee, and you meat of choice -- for only $8.69 |
We had a beautiful table, right in the front window. See the police cars outside? Three tables of policemen were eating at this diner. SO IT MUST BE GOOD. |
Oh, yes. AMAZING. And breakfast is Lilly's favorite meal of the day. WE ARE SO HAPPY... |
After a hearty breakfast, my plan was for us to walk downtown. Mood Fabrics is 7 short blocks away...and Macy's is four more blocks.
It will be an easy walk, with lots to see along the way!!
We stopped in a trim store... |
But Lilly and I are both excited about seeing Mood Fabrics. She watched every episode of Project Runway Junior this winter... |
And, mostly, she is looking forward to meeting Swatch, the Mood dog. |
THERE HE IS!! In all his St. Patrick's Day glory. |
Lilly was delighted. |
We looked around, and took some pictures. |
But I knew I didn't want to carry a totebag full of fabric all over New York City for the rest of the day. |
So, after an hour -- we went outside, and walked down to Herald Square. Every year, Lilly watches the Thanksgiving Day Parade with me. Next year, she'll remember our visit...on this day... |
And of course we had to go into Macy's. (from the Miracle on 34th Street). |
Lilly is loving all her escalator rides. This is the oldest working escalator in America. (1908?) |
After Macy's, the plan was to take the subway down to South Port...and ride the Staten Island Ferry. It's a great way to see the Statue of Liberty. NOT TO MENTION, IT'S FREE...
Lilly's first New York City subway ride. |
She loved standing up, and hanging onto the pole. |
When you come up from the subway at South Ferry -- you see this spectacular Staten Island Ferry building.
The Ferry runs 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. I think it is amazing. They have five boats, making 109 daily trips, transporting 70,000 passengers daily.
Well done, New York City!!
When you leave the dock, you get that iconic view of New York Harbor. |
And a few minutes later -- you get a GREAT view as we pass the Statue of Liberty |
On our return trip...I asked a German tourist to take a picture of me and Lilly, standing in the front of the boat. Life just doesn't get any better than this!! |
Fun! Bringing back memories of our last trip to NYC! We are going again next spring!
