Breakfast Club Sew 'N Tell

We used to call ourselves a Book Club. And, in our hearts, that is who we are.

In the beginning -- we'd pick a book, then get together once-a-month to discuss the book. We'd take turns having our meetings in our homes -- occasionally in a restaurant. After we read the Kite Runner -- I made the food for a real Afghani dinner and we ate at Jackie's house.  (I still have two boxes of spices I bought for that dinner).  We loved getting together -- but it could be a lot of work...

Then, one by one, we kinda retired...and the ironic thing is -- as we had MORE time on our hands -- we had LESS desire to do anything that felt like work.

So -- YEARS ago -- we made two important changes. First -- we decided we needed our girl-time ONCE A WEEK instead of once a month. Secondly -- so it would be ABSOLUTELY NO WORK for anybody (and very little expense) -- we made it a breakfast meeting at the local grocery store.

To keep it very, very simple -- we decided to make it the same day, at the same time, at the same place every week. Tuesday. 9:00. Hy-Vee.
We sometimes do day trips or events...this was after the play, Les Miz...
Sandy has become Lillian's special Pen Pal...she loves making cards AND sewing things...
Just about every week, somebody brings a Sew N Tell...This was Sandy's t-shirt quilt...
Her son, Matt, graduated from Iowa State -- these are t-shirts from special events during his college years...
HEY -- we still all read books. I just finished the second John Puller novel by David Balducci (he is almost as much fun as Jack Reacher)...we all read Gone Girl and had a huge disagreement about the ending of that book.

But the four of us are about a lot more than just reading.  We enjoy sharing our mutual love of reading, eating, cooking, sewing -- well, family. And the best thing about our weekly breakfast is that there is no expectation, no pressure, no guilt... You don't HAVE to read a book or sew a project....but if that's what you feel like doing this week -- WE WILL BE YOUR AUDIENCE...
